Director BAZ LUHRMANN blasted JAY-Z rap tracks onto the set of THE GREAT GATSBY to boost his cast’s energy during shooting.
The Moulin Rouge! moviemaker has put his creative twist on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic tale for the new film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.
And despite the movie being set in the posh Hamptons area of New York in the 1920s, Luhrmann played the rapper’s songs at full blast while his stars acted out their scenes.
Isla Fisher, who plays Myrtle Wilson in the movie, says, “On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full and we did the entire scene with Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting, and it was just so liberating.”
JUSTIN BIEBER has publicly mocked the California woman who sensationally accused the singer of fathering her child last year (11) by poking fun at her on his Twitter.com blog.
The Baby hitmaker found himself at the centre of controversy in November (11) when Mariah Yeater, then 20, claimed Bieber had impregnated her during a backstage romp at one of his concerts in Los Angeles in 2010.
Yeater told reporters she had evidence proving Bieber was the father of her baby son Tristyn, but she withdrew her legal demand for a paternity test and child support after the singer’s representatives vehemently denied her allegations and threatened to sue.
Bieber voluntarily took a DNA test to put an end to the scandal, and the case subsequently slipped out of the headlines.
But the teenage superstar, who is dating singer/actress Selena Gomez, revisited the matter again on Saturday (21Apr12) when he went on Twitter and posted a series of random thoughts online.
Closing a segment he called his “random twitter hour”, Bieber wrote, “Dear mariah yeeter (sic)… we have never met… so from the heart i just wanted to say…”, before adding a link to a YouTube.com audio clip of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s alter ego Borat taunting, “You will never get this, you will never get this, la la la la la!”
KATY PERRY battled through illness to perform at a naval academy in Maryland on Friday (20Apr12) and even pulled one lucky sailor up on stage for a kiss.
The pop star fell sick with a nasty cold this week (beg16Apr12), but she refused to let her ill health halt her concert commitments, and took to the stage at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland to perform for troops as planned.
Perry, 27, dressed in a sailor’s uniform for the show and she pulled one gig-goer out of the crowd to join her on stage.
She asked the man, who called himself Officer Beasley, about his age and when he replied, “20″, the star teased him: “Is this legal? Well I’m a little bit older than you, but that’s alright – I can be your Mrs Robinson.”
Perry then warned him about her cold, adding, “Now Beasley, listen.. I have to warn you, if I told you I had a cold, if I told you I flew here with a 101.8 degree temperature, would you still be alright with (kissing me)?”
She then suggested they create the “iconic pose” seen in a famous 1945 photograph of a sailor kissing a girl on V-J Day in New York City’s Times Square, before he tipped her backwards and kissed her on the lips to deafening applause from the audience.
Perry subsequently posted a picture of the gig on her Twitter.com page with the caption, “Played for some Navy guys & gals tonight. I think my fever broke on stage from all the sea-men…”
According to Celeb Gossip Magazines, Ashton Kutcher and Rihanna’s late night rendezvous did not work out quite as expected, as they were busted by the media. However, in spite of Kutcher turning cold after his alleged one-night affair with Rihanna, the singer is up for the challenge of luring Ashton back into her arms. As a matter of fact, she’s been sexting the aloof star of Two and a Half Men.
Twenty-four-year-old Rihanna has been sending thirty-four-year-old Kutcher sexy images and pics of herself when she was on tour in Japan and London. According to insiders, Rihanna purchased a $700 article of lingerie and sent him a ton of photos of her rear end, cleavage and stomach. As a matter of fact, insiders say, the more Ashton resists, the more she pushes. She loves a good challenge.
Insiders added that Rihanna has men dropping to their feet and proposing marriage all of the time, so with Ashton acting as if he’s doesn’t really care, it is driving her absolutely mad. Friends hope that Rihanna is through with bad boys such as Chris Brown; however, no matter how hard Rihanna attempts to get away from them, she just is very attracted to troublemakers. She’s addicted to forbidden romances and men who aren’t right for her.
However, something must be working, because close friends say that Ashton is not playing hard to get, and that he is actually more interested than he is letting on. Kutcher says he would like to see Rihanna again, but feels their relationship needs to be kept a secret. He does not enjoy the attention the couple received recently when Rihanna was spotted leaving Kutcher’s home in the wee morning hours.

Rocker TED NUGENT has been axed from a concert at U.S. military base Fort Knox following the controversy over his rant against President BARACK OBAMA last weekend (14-15Apr12).
The singer is a staunch conservative, and proved his dedication to the Republican party at a National Rifle Association rally in Missouri by insisting fellow members had to rise up against Obama and the Democrats when America goes to the polls in November (12).
He added, “We need to ride into the battlefield and chop their heads off in November.”
Nugent’s comments were taken so seriously, U.S. Secret Service officials ordered a meeting with the Cat Scratch Fever hitmaker, in which he insisted he had made no threats of violence against the president.
Now his remarks have prompted military chiefs at Fort Knox to cancel his performance at a concert at the army post in Kentucky in June (12).
A post on the Fort Knox Facebook page reads, “After learning of opening act Ted Nugent’s recent public comments about the president of the United States, Fort Knox leadership decided to cancel his performance on the installation.
“Army Entertainment and the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation remain committed to carrying out the June 23 concert, and the possibility exists that a replacement will be selected.
Co-headliners REO Speedwagon and Styx are still slated to perform.
Rapper 50 CENT is facing a lawsuit from a producer who alleges the star sampled a song by THE PERSUADERS without permission.
Robert Poindexter, who worked on a number of tracks for the 1970s R&B group, has filed suit in New York accusing the hip-hop star of using part of the band’s track Love Gonna Pack Up and Walk Out in a song called Redrum, which was released free online in 2009.
In the legal documents, obtained by TMZ.com, Poindexter states, “Fifty Cents (sic) has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defence solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free.”
The website reports Poindexter is suing for unspecified statutory damages, plus $600,000 (£375,000) in punitive damages as well as interest.

Friends of the couple say the reason for this tension is that the pair has been inseparable since they first began to date last year. For the initial 6 months, it was not an issue, but lately they both seem to feel emotionally suffocated and trapped—and that will cause friction. The other problem the couple is facing is that Justin wanted to reside in NY, yet Jen backed out in the last minute. He attempted to be understanding, yet he is actually very irritated with her getting her way. So, to compromise, Jen agreed to build Justin his own separate bathroom, kitchen and man cave to ‘get away from it all.’
Most of Jen’s friends say this is a very wise thing to do—to have his and hers living quarters. Me personally? I think it is a FANTASTIC idea! I’ve been married 11 years, and sometimes you just need your own space. I think my husband would agree… It’s a great way for a long term relationship to survive.
